My mother is the guiding spirit in my life. Or rather, my mother taught me how to be guided by spirit. She was diagnosed with lung cancer over nine years ago. An operation sent it away for four, then it’s return was heralded by metastasis. For four and a half years I watched my mother move from a fearful woman, focused entirely on the needs of those around her, into a soul who chose to be full and present to her experience of mortality. Her journey inspired my own, which is how I began the process that has led me here, meeting others walking, (skipping, stumbling, pogo-ing), down this same road of illumination. She left her body in January and I continue to celebrate our journeys together.
